R&J Batteries Receives Climate Active Certification
We are proud to announce that we are officially certified as carbon neutral under the Australian Government’s Climate Active program. R&J Batteries is the first battery company in Australia to receive Climate Active certification for business operations.

Carbon neutrality is achieved when there is a balance between the amount of carbon emitted by an organisation and the carbon offsets they purchase. Carbon emissions from transportation, manufacturing, electricity production and construction have significantly impacted our environment. Over the last 50 years, global temperatures have risen by 2% and there has been an increase in other environmental issues in many parts of the world such as bushfires, floods and droughts.
The Climate Active program encourages Australian businesses to take voluntary climate action. We have been actively making changes to our operations over the last two years to meet the stringent requirements of the Climate Active Carbon Neutral Standard for organisations. We appointed an external consultant to undertake an audit of our carbon creation between 2022 and 2024. The audit also identified areas where our carbon footprint could be reduced. Notably it was electricity use that was the biggest carbon producer. As a result, we expanded our solar energy storage systems to reduce power drawn from the grid across our business. 13 out of 24 R&J Batteries branches in Australia are now using and storing solar power while the remaining power is being provided by Green Energy companies. We are currently taking further actions to reduce emissions by upgrading our fleet to more fuel efficient vehicles. Fuel usage for transporting products is our second biggest generator of carbon. We aim to further reduce these emissions by 3 – 5 % over the next 12 months.
Once the final carbon footprint was identified, the remaining emissions have been offset through the purchase of carbon credits in forestation projects throughout Australia and the Pacific.
“We are extremely proud to be the very first Australian battery company to be officially recognised as carbon neutral. This is a truly significant achievement for R&J Batteries. Achieving certification under the Climate Active program was no easy feat. We have intentionally chosen to be certified under this program due to the exacting standards and rigorous diligence the Australian Government has set for the program,” said Stuart Hamilton, Chief Executive Officer at R&J Batteries.
The process of becoming a carbon neutral business has been challenging but also rewarding. By taking voluntary climate action and achieving carbon neutral status, we are reflecting our commitment to the environment and interests of our stakeholders. We encourage all Australians, both businesses and individuals, to join us in this collective effort to measure, reduce and offset carbon emissions to safeguard the planet for future generations.
